IN CONVERSATION WITH... KEVIN IWAMOTO, SC GLOBAL

Kevin Iwamoto is taking part in a panel session at 1000 on Thursday 23 February at the Business Travel ShowHow travel managers can raise their profile within their company. To register for a free pass, please visit www.businesstravelshow.com.

Why is your session a must-attend for travel managers?
With so many simultaneous changes and industry disruptions happening, it is important to stay on top of what is current and may impact travel managers' roles.

What is the biggest challenge facing the business travel industry this year and why?
Besides the obvious impact of mergers and acquisitions, I believe it is disruptive technologies and their impact on (1) corporate travel programme compliance, (2) duty of care and (3) corporate policy modifications to potentially include non-traditional sharing economy suppliers.

And what is the biggest opportunity for travel managers and why?
Promotion of, and education on, the value they bring to the corporate value chain; all the disruptive activities that are happening that impact corporate travel programmes and meeting programmes require someone within the corporation to manage, and avoid, potential travel/meeting disruptions and new duty of care gaps.

Interrupters/sharing economy suppliers – a help or a hindrance?
Both - the use of interrupters/sharing economy suppliers is inevitable with the new millennial workforce; technology enhancements and cultural shifts and preferences that these players impact will influence and change corporate travel and meeting programmes.

How will Brexit affect your job?
For those of us in the consulting world, this will add more business engagements as corporations and programme owners look for ways to gauge potential impacts on their collective programmes and policies.

Why are you looking forward to speaking at/attending the Business Travel Show?
I like the honest feedback and interaction with the UK and European audience. I also feel strongly that travel and meeting buyers need to stay relevant, and I hope to impart some ideas for them to successfully build their own career brand at my session.
